Youth Coaching Tips, Drills, Plays and Practice Plans For Soccer, Baseball, and Basketball

Perhaps you are nervous about coaching your child’s team. You may have never coached any sport. You may have never even played the game before. Take a deep breath, relax, and read on. New Coach Tips material was developed with you in mind! We were thinking of you when we decided to develop resources for parents who care about their children enough to coach when others are “just too busy” (like you aren’t!) or who “don’t know a thing about soccer/baseball/basketball” (like their 5 year old is going to know the difference!). Congratulations to you, Coach! And on behalf of those kids who may not have gotten to play had you not volunteered: THANK YOU! You are about to have a wonderful experience! Coaching our children has provided some wonderful memories that we will treasure forever. We know that you and your child are about to make the same kind of memories.

Q: Who should use New Coach Tips manuals?
A: Any parent or youth coach who finds themselves in the position of coaching youth basketball, baseball, or soccer for the first time, and doesn’t want to spend hours online or at the library in search of the knowledge needed to coach children and deal with parents. The information presented in our material was developed when we coached our own children and spent hours online and at the library in order to gather coaching tips, drills, plays and practice plans, as well as from our experience on the fields and courts.

We have a wealth of youth coaching resources on our website. Some are free (Quick Tips), some cost a little bit. All are worthwhile. The Youth Coaching Philosophy page has information ranging from holding your first parent meeting to setting team goals and more. For a book on how to have a successful first season coaching youth baseball, basketball, or soccer, visit the Youth Coaching Books page.

The books have parent meeting information, practice plans, drills, and plays along with general coaching information.  They were designed for a new youth coach with players between the ages of 4 and 9. We keep it simple since both the players and coach are new at this.
